When I saw Goliath’s photograph, I knew I wanted him in the Studio, so asked his owner, Alyssa of Roscoe’s Refuge, if she’d be interested in bringing him by. I was delighted when she agreed.
Not only is Goliath one of the most gorgeous dogs I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing, but he’s also a rescue!
Alyssa has a history of saving dogs. Her dog training business name – Roscoe’s Refuge – has a really cool backstory. When she was just a teenager her father rescued a dog named Roscoe, but after a couple weeks, everyone except Alyssa had given up hope – he had to go back. Roscoe was a nightmare and totally untrainable. Alyssa refused to let him be returned where he no doubt would have been put to sleep, and instead took on his training herself. She took him to classes where even the instructor said she had no hope for Roscoe. But Alyssa continued to work tirelessly to save him. Before long, he became a therapy and show dog, winning multiple awards.
Thanks to Alyssa’s background and dog training skills, Goliath was a breeze to photograph. It was one of my favorite shoots ever!
Believe it or not, Goliath is actually on the smaller side for a male great dane!
Goliath’s brother, Titan, also came along for the photo shoot. He’s a Mastador (a lab/mastiff mix) but looks mostly like a black lab at first glance. He was very patient while Goliath got all the attention, so at the very end, we decided to let him have some time in the spotlight too. Boy was I happy I got him in front of the camera, because he is incredibly photogenic. I didn’t notice it at first, but on camera, his coat shines like silk and his eyes glow like candles. What a beaut!
Apparently the mastiff part gives his coat that extra shine.
Another huge thanks to Alyssa, Goliath and Titan for stopping by the studio!!
